Goal Setting doesn’t have to be hard. It can be a simple tool to help you project your business to the next level.
Tips Before You Get Started:
- Take a moment to get in the right head space – be optimistic and positive as you go on this journey.
- Know your numbers. Make goals that fit within the confounds of your market area but don’t be afraid to dream big.
Use the S.M.A.R.T. Goal-Setting Strategy
This. If you are not already making very specific goals, then I hope this is the one take-away from your reading. Failing to make goals specific is the biggest reason why people do not achieve them.
This is the difference between saying your goal is to “Beat my sales numbers from last year” vs. “Sell 100 homes this year”. That specific number gives you a basis to create a plan, break down your goals and easily track your progress.
Well, we touched on this above, but the ability to measure the goal is a must. We recommend focusing on goals that have a clear measurement.
Again, the difference between saying “I want to rock out my social media presence” to, “I want to grow my social media following by 10,000 followers”
Achievable / Attainable
Know your numbers. Make goals that fit within the confounds of your market area but don’t be afraid to dream big.
For example, if the total number of homes sold in your area is 100 per year (obviously ambiguous number), it’s unlikely that you’ll sell 200. So, take a moment to understand your market, your competition, and your growth potential. If you know the challenges, you’re more likely to come up with solutions.
Will your goal improve yourself, your business, or your life? Is it something that is worth doing? Do they further your progess towards your long-term plans?
Set a realistic timeframe. This will help you monitor progress and give you a deadline to keep you on your toes.
