Setting Achievable Goals in the New Year

Goal Setting doesn’t have to be hard. It can be a simple tool to help you project your business to the next level.

Tips Before You Get Started:

  • Take a moment to get in the right head space – be optimistic and positive as you go on this journey.
  • Know your numbers. Make goals that fit within the confounds of your market area but don’t be afraid to dream big.

Specific

This. If you are not already making very specific goals, then I hope this is the one take-away from your reading. Failing to make goals specific is the biggest reason why people do not achieve them.

This is the difference between saying your goal is to “Beat my sales numbers from last year” vs. “Sell 100 homes this year”. That specific number gives you a basis to create a plan, break down your goals and easily track your progress.

Measurable

Well, we touched on this above, but the ability to measure the goal is a must. We recommend focusing on goals that have a clear measurement.

Again, the difference between saying “I want to rock out my social media presence” to, “I want to grow my social media following by 10,000 followers”

Achievable / Attainable

Know your numbers. Make goals that fit within the confounds of your market area but don’t be afraid to dream big.

For example, if the total number of homes sold in your area is 100 per year (obviously ambiguous number), it’s unlikely that you’ll sell 200. So, take a moment to understand your market, your competition, and your growth potential. If you know the challenges, you’re more likely to come up with solutions.

Relevant

Will your goal improve yourself, your business, or your life? Is it something that is worth doing? Do they further your progess towards your long-term plans?

Time-bound

Set a realistic timeframe. This will help you monitor progress and give you a deadline to keep you on your toes.

The Science of Body Language

We often discuss standing with confidence, smiling, leaning in (but not too closely) when listening and many key body language tips, but Amy Cuddy has put the research into it. Listen while she explains the science behind how the proper body language is proven to increase your sales.

Get tips on how to portray confidence and knowledge, how to trick your body into a better mindset, and how your body language can make or break your sales.

Fear or Empowerment?

Have you ever noticed those moments when you completely change your mind into a positive space and then things just fall into place? Yeah. Us too.

This works in so many ways – as agents, it’s easy to fall into the negative mindset and fear-based mentality, but that doesn’t help anybody – not us, not our clients. A healthy dose of realism is always welcomed, but let’s hope for the best, work towards the best, and to come up with solutions rather than dwell on problems.

We were lucky enough to get coaching from a phenomenal, up and coming firm who teaches about Emotional Responses and how we, as humans, can often get sucked into a negative headspace – it’s part of being human. This training taught us to recognize those human traits and how to work through them to get to the end goal much more quickly. What’s the end goal? Well, it’s a little different for everybody, but happiness, solution-based mentality, and inspiration are a few of the positive emotional reactions that you can choose from. These sound much better than fear, stress, anger and anxiety – so why not learn to get to the good feelings more quickly?!

If you’re interested in training like this one, reach out to us, we’ll be happy to teach you what we know and to point you in the direction of quality coaches that can lead you through the exercise we went through – it was mind-changing 🙂

Have a great week!
